Last year, I was extremely happy to named as one of the three winners, of the I’m an Athenian’ photography competition, ran by Discover Greece last year.
My prize was a return trip to Athens for two, which I chose to share with my son, to show him all the great sights in Athens . So last week, we headed back to Athens for 5 days, to explore what Athens had to offer for the family traveller. Check out our week in pictures here .
Flying the flag for Greece
When in Greece, one must pick up ones evil eye to ward off those nasty spirits
Getting all nostalgic, at the venue of the first ever Olympics
Checking out Athens great streetart scene (child not included !!)
Great way to see the sights, jump on the Athens mini train only 5 euros !!
Popping in to see the guards at the parliament buildings is a must …
Hitting the shops in Monastiraki district …
For the best view over Athens, head up to Lykavittos Hill especially at sunset, for some amazing views.
And of course not forgetting the main attraction, the world famous Acropolis. My tip would be, go to the museum first in the morning, and then head up to the site late afternoon when the sun’s going down. In the summer months the the site is open until 8pm.
For a 5 euro entry fee, ( free for under 18’s ) the Acropolis museum is a great way to escape the heat for a few hours , there’s even a cafe & restaurant if you want to linger .
Finally the amazing Acropolis , Athens finest ….. We had a great time exploring Athens , it’s extremely child friendly ,and this just a small snapshot of what we got up too. I easily could have stayed another week !!! .
